Prolific Thoroughbred Nursery Brookdale Farm a Longtime Equiwinner™ User and Believer.

Press Release: July 18, 2023

Over the years, Brookdale Farm has earned a reputation as one of the premier farms in Central Kentucky. Founded in 1983 by Fred Seitz, the farm, and the Seitz family, have been lauded for their sound horsemanship, attention to detail and for producing some of the biggest names in Thoroughbred racing over the past 40 years.

The list of Grade 1 winners and Champions the Seitz family has been connected to runs deep. Brookdale Farm has foaled and/or raised the likes of I’ll Have Another (Kentucky Derby-G1 winner), Serengeti Empress (Kentucky Oaks-G1 winner), Tapit (Champion sire), Noble Bird (Stephen Foster Handicap-G1 winner), Harmonize (Del Mar Oaks-G1 winner) and many others.

More recently, farm manager Freddy Seitz signed the ticket for a 2.5-percent fractional interest in Flightline, the undefeated Breeders’ Cup Classic winner and eventual Horse of the Year. Purchased on behalf of an undisclosed client, the share was secured by Seitz for $4.6 million.

For years, Seitz, who oversees all horses raised and cared for under the Brookdale banner, has used Equiwinner patches. He understands the importance of electrolytes to a horse’s internal systems and overall condition and the need to occasionally restore balance to them when a horse shows signs of needing a boost.

“Anytime we have a horse on the farm that just doesn’t seem to have a bright enough coat, isn’t carrying the appropriate weight or has an overall dull attitude, we apply the Equiwinner patches,” said Seitz. “The horses always seem to really blossom when the patches work their electrolyte balancing magic.”

Freddy Seitz of Brookdale Farm relies on Equiwinner for "electrolyte magic".

One Equiwinner treatment includes 10 non-transdermal adhesive patches containing natural balanced electrolytes that are changed daily for 10 days. Rather than transferring electrolytes into a horse’s body, the horse’s body simply recognizes the electrolytes in the patches and responds to them, allowing them to work properly. A single treatment can be effective for months and even up to a year and will never test positive in any racing or equestrian jurisdiction.

“When horse’s bodies are utilizing electrolytes properly, they look better, feel better and perform better,” said Barbara Socha, owner of Signal-Health, the North American distributor of Equiwinner patches. “Knowing that a horseman as prolific and renowned as Mr. Seitz believes so strongly in Equiwinner patches, while not surprising, is truly meaningful. Brookdale Farm and the Seitz family are known internationally for raising and producing world-class horses and we’re proud that Equiwinner plays a small part in that.”
